The iPhone mail had the same structure/folders BEFORE the first time sync. So Apple has a copy of the structure on their side.

I have my Kindle for about 1 month now, and finished 2.5 books on it.

If you read English books, go get this. Enough say.

And BTW I just received my 3rd Kindle. The 2nd one was returned because it did not work with our wi fi.

It's safer to get only the 3G model.

It's safer to get only the 3G model.

And the first Kindle just stopped dead in our travel this summer. So far my lucky with the Kindle is not so good - only 1 lasted more than 1 year.

Still a good reading device though. I will give the new Kindle a try when it's out.

Your bad luck with the Kindle is less expensive than my bad luck with Mac  :)

【明報專訊】8月11日,上海市新聞出版局發布了《新媒體環境下上海市民閱讀現狀調查報告(2010-2011)》。報告顯示,儘管絕大多數人依然認為閱讀可增加知識、開闊視野,但事實上,快速的生活節奏和工作壓力,令人更喜歡上網「放鬆」,而用於傳統深度閱讀的時間愈來愈少。

閱讀領域娛樂化氾濫

61.3%受訪者認為,他們花在傳統閱讀的時間愈來愈少。他們一邊抱怨「沒時間看書」,一邊卻花大量時間上網。而且有28.7%的受訪者更喜歡「在線免費閱讀」。在獲取信息的幾大主要途徑中,依賴網絡、手機的比例,分別達到33%和19.3%。

傳統閱讀時間的減少已不算新鮮事,搭地鐵時總會發現,身邊有許多端覑手機、電子閱讀器或者平板電腦的人,看短片或閱讀,但捧覑紙質書籍的人少之又少。即使是在圖書館,也有不少人是在上網,而非閱讀書籍。

不可否認,這種變化與新媒體的發展有密切關係——當移動終端實現了各種功能集合並用海量存儲包容大量資訊後,又有多少人願意揹覑書到處走動?

如果問題僅是這樣,我們還可以驕傲地視其為進步。但實際上並非如此,同一調查還告訴我們,有40.8%的受訪者認為,閱讀的主要目的是「休閒娛樂」。可見娛樂化浪潮不僅佔領電視、廣播等媒體,同時也在閱讀領域氾濫。

雖然很難說在閱讀中尋求輕鬆快樂是錯誤,但這種現象中卻令人有一絲隱憂。古語云「生於憂患,死於安樂」,人類的娛樂需求膨脹,會否導致思考能力和憂患意識下降呢?

劣書驅逐良書才是問題

這樣的結果不應怪罪於新媒體,更應從自身尋找原因。例如,筆者在上海地鐵上遇到為數不多的讀書者中,多數是外籍人士。難道說中國的電子產品發達程度已經超越歐美日了嗎?再比如,如今手機書城提供的書籍數量的確不少,但充斥覑「穿越」、「靈異」、「盜墓」類小說,要找一本嚴肅讀物卻很費勁,看來閱讀器演變不是問題,「劣書驅逐良書」才是問題

What he mentioned is really true.  However, there are always media (like Next Media) emphasize that they are  market-oriented.  So sex, violence and privacy is always the headline news.  What a shame!

I have downloaded many to my new Kindle Touch.
