Squeezed a few days to go to Taipei. It turned out that my primary activity was to visit museums. We totally visited 3 different museums and some traditional tourist points.
The first place we went was the National History Museum. We went there for an exhibition named Petit Louvre which they showed mini-sized paintings and sculptures of Musee du Louvre

These were just the duplication of the original so we can touch the exhibits. Here are the 3 must see items ...... Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and the Victory God sculpture....

The first one talks about the dedication to republic and the second one shows part of the history of Rome

After that, we took a few minute walk to Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Square. The entrance plate, Theatre, Opera House and the Memorial Hall.

Previously it had the wording 大中至正 and it was replaced to Freedom Square a few years ago. You can still see the dents of the old wording around the word 自

Morning of the second day we went to a traditional tourist point, Yehliu Geopark
Someone was fishing there alone and there were a lot of rocks being eroded by wind, water, etc..A lot of mainlanders visiting there too....

The most famous piece of rock is called "the Queen's head". In fact it really depends on the angle you view it. The first one is not really like a "head" at all. The second one is much better....

In the afternoon, we went to JingShan (金山) and tasted their famous bun....yummy

We went to there because we will visit a famous private museum in Taiwan, Juming Museum. JuMing (朱銘) is a famous Taiwan Sculptor. If you went to Exchanger Square in Hong Kong, there was a sculpture of a man playing Tai-chi. That was one of the Ju Ming's work. You will see it later in this post.

His museum there was huge and full of his sculpture work. Even a little pond shows his talent. He made a zip around the pond as the lotus there will change according to the season. It gives us a feel that whenever you open / close the zip, it will show you a different picture in different season.

He had a lot of different series of work. One of them is the soldier series. He made a lot of soldiers marching around the whole museum, and sky actually....

Each soldier has his own facial expression, with different weapons/guns and function. The soldier who is rescuing his teammate names "WongYan" ;D

They also have marine and air force.....

This sculpture made me think of a movie by To Ki Fung about the thief (文雀), acted by Yam Tat Wah, where the last scene about a rainy night in Central with a lot of pickpockets.

Tai-Chi series is the series that made Ju Ming famous internationally. He learnt Tai Chi because he felt he was too thin at that time. After that, he used the Tai-Chi post as the base for his sculpture. Later, he tried to smooth out the Tai Chi post and made it more round and mixed.
The first one is like the one we have in Exchange Square. The second one is more modern and its ideas was come from a piece of wood log. The last one showed his final work on Tai Chi series as it is like an arch, which you cannot see the exact Tai Chi post but you can feel it.

The third day we went to JiuFeng and Jinguashi. The first spot we went to is called the Golden Fall.

The first one was the gold refining factory but it was in a ruin now. The second one showed the part where sea water met the river water and gave different reflection colour, they called that "Yin-Yang" sea.
Then we walked up the hill to Jinguashi and visited the Golden Mining Museum. That was quite a long walk as you can see the factory down the route.

Gold Museum showed the life and work of the people during gold mining period. It was ruled by Japan and here was the house that a rather senior official lived.

My lunch was a "Mine Worker Lunch Box". It costs me NT$220, which included a wrapping cloth with the map printed, a metal lunch box and chopsticks.
The food was actually rice with fried pork chops. Taste? Not bad.

The last day, we went to the Contemporary Art Museum. They just have an exhibition of an artist whose name is Li Shan. All his works was to pose a question to us to think. What will life be if we can change our life by modifying DNA or bio-engineering? Are we still human being by doing so?

With that in mind, all his work were mixing human with some other animal/insects, etc.. This time his main themes was dragonfly. He put dragonflies' feature (the long wings) into other animals.

After that, we headed to Taiwan Airport. It seems that they put more art work in the airport now.....

It just happens that Ju Ming has an exhibition in HK now. I went to see it yesterday, to see his recent work.
The exhibition is held at HK Museum of Arts. You need to pay $15 to enter but they put some of his work outside the museum, those works are scattered at various corners around museum.
At the entrance, you see the soldiers with parachute, and his famous line-up sculpture is put at the entrance of course.
The one I mentioned on page 2 of this post is similar to this one, also made me feel of the movie "pickpocket". This one is not the one I saw in Taipei, but given the light shower yesterday, the mood appears well....

I saw the first one in his museum in Taipei, the second one is the new one, mainly with white colour. These sculptures were made by speed cutting on wood. I was told that each piece (person) only took him 3-5 minutes.

The theme of this exhibition is "Sculpturing the living work". A sub-title of it is called "念", which is about the idea that our life totally depends on what we think. Exhibits under this sub-titles are something I am familiar with and posted in here before. The last photo is one of his new work, which means that human being develops square/cube (implied meaning of rules and constraints) but such square/cube restricts or minds as well as our physical being.

The far end of this picture shows a row of pink lady sitting on a bench, which is an old one I saw in Taipei and posted here before.
The closer set of sculptures is his new work. This is the first time I saw him using stainless steel. A series of metal work portraits some models with white swimsuit. Figure lines are smooth this time, unlike his previous work.
