When we first arrived the Toroko area, it was at night, and many of us sleeping in the van. Only after we see in daylight how difficult it was to drive on this road, then we can fully appreciate the driver's complain about how much he hate to drive here.

Many parts of the road here are one-lane only.

This is one of the scenic attraction, 九曲洞. However it was closed due to some recent rockfalls.

In the first picture, you can see some man-made structure on the left side of the road. The function of this structure seemed to be a barrier before the rockfalls reach the road.

Apparently the original road is now the tourist track (that was closed on the day.) There is a newer 1.2km long tunnel for through traffic.

Around this area we saw lots of small fallen rocks. Rockfalls was a real danger. There were signs that say tourists should have hardhats on. Only when we leave the area then we found out that we could have borrowed hardhats at the entrance of the national park. When we entered, it was dark and the driver may not have thought that we would walk.

We saw many other tourists wearing hardhats.

After about 3 hours walk from the hotel, we arrived 燕子口 which is a major scenic spot and the end of our walk that day.

This is the split where through traffics would use the new tunnel, and pedestrian or tourism vehicles use the one-way only old road.

chin:
Just another shot of the incredible road.

We spent the last two days of the trip in Taipei. One of the morning was spent in the Floral Expo. Unfortunately for us, that day was also the first day of a long weekend holiday, and the Floral Expo was very crowded. I will post some flower pictures once I got the chance to sort them out.
