A better view of the competition venue. The setup made it very hard to take good pictures, because I did not get to see many faces. Only the backs.

The RCHK team was in a pretty good second position after the first 6 rounds. But the last round against Kellet was particularly humiliating – RCHK did not score any point until the last question. At the end, Macau International was the clear winner by a 20-point margin, while the other 3 schools are only a few points apart. The judges admitted that their individually kept scores did not match each others.
Last year RCHK was dead last, and this year it has improved quite a bit. But the preparation can and should improve. From what I heard, the general attendance rate for the preparation meetings was poor. There was at least one incident where only 5 people showed up.
In this year and the last, the BOB team was organized as one of the many available extra-curriculum activities, instead of as a team representing the school to compete with other schools. Thus the mind set was much more relax and not very spirited. While the ultimate purpose of BOB is to get kids to enjoy reading, having a competitive spirit could add quite a bit motivation to finish reading all the books.
Another common complaint on the preparation is the lack of access to books on the BOB list. My kid missed at least two books simply because the books could not be located. With more and more schools joining the BOB, the books could only get harder to borrow.

My last gripe concerns the poor moderation by this mister, perhaps the librarian from CAIS.
He repeatedly lost track of which team was answering and which team was picking up. He repeatedly called the wrong school or child names. He repeatedly disrupted the kids (like repositioning their name tags) while they should be focusing on discussing answers within the time limit. He gave the wrong answers and caused the retraction of at least two questions. He gave the answer at the same time of asking the question, thus caused more retraction of question.
Although none of these problems benefited any team, it disrupted the rhythm of the competition. I would hold him responsible for the confusions that caused the judges not able to came up with the exact final scores.

When the judges can't agree on the final scores it is quite ridiculous. It was fortunate that the
winning team was so far ahead. And what's with the adjusting the name tags... odd. :-\

Sometimes the kids' name tag wasn't placed in a place that was easy for him to see, so he would take out the stickers and re-attach to a better place. The problem was he did that a few times when the kids were discussing the answer within the 20 or 10 seconds allowed time limited.
